The loch shows an infinite variety of faces as the light hits it on different days.

Lucky used to be a stray girl but has now found her new identity as a Donich Lodge boy (the vet discovered he was male when we took “her” to be spayed). He would ask you to respect his new pronouns.

The high mountain pass over the Rest and be Thankful is the main route out of the village. Here it is in winter.

Spring sky over the mountain tops.

Sunset from our front door step.

A misty moon over the mountains as darkness falls.

View over towards the loch from near the summit of Cnoc Coinnich.

A rainbow appears in a clear interval between showers.

Lochgoilhead in the distance on a clear spring morning.

As the year turns, the mountains are white on most days.

Looking across the loch from the village, clouds form a band across the hills.

Tora and Schrodi our snow Bengal brothers used to live here. RIP both of you

A dragonfly pauses for a rest by the side of our pond.

The weather here can be appalling. Here gales and torrential rain have blocked one of the village’s few roads.

The colours on the mountains fade to muted browns as autumn approaches.

The Donich Water in one of its kinder moods as it runs through our garden.

One of a myriad insects pollinating our heather.

A group of wild haggis have made a den down by the river.

Our new Highland Tiger Saphy prowling her territory. She is a demon for the wildlife with her specialized prey item being shrews. She is not adverse to mice, voles or birds however.

This is Amber aka as Bramble. She is big, black, rather podgy and a bit of a scaredy cat. We had her cloned shortly after she arrived.

Although we don’t get much snow at loch level, the higher mountains are covered for five months or so of the year

Much cat activity

Summer is in full bloom now, and the new camera is showing a lot of activity. Here are two squirrels playing with each other. Then Saphy comes along. She very nearly catches one, but luckily they are able to run straight up the rough cast on the side of the house so it managed to […]

Doughnut Meeting

R told me he was having a “doughnut meeting” this afternoon. Apparently (and this sounds like a very, very American idea), you are paired up at random with a person from a different team in the Company, and you just have a general chat to get to know each other. I suppose it is not […]

Ultra Processed Foods

I’ve been reading a lot about ultra processed food (and in fact have read “ultra processed people” up to the point towards the end where it started getting very political and woke). It does occur to me that R and I eat virtually no ultra processed foods. In particular I eat very very few. We […]

Caught red jawed

We got a new outside webcam yesterday because the night censor had stopped working on the old one. After R had spent 10 minutes stopping it sending our activities back to the Chinese government, he installed it near the shed feeding station. We have long known that Lucky was a hunter, otherwise he would have […]

First Solo outing

I hadn’t seen my Mum for a while, so I decided to take my first solo excursion on the bus to Helensburgh. I’ve just been walking with the boot without crutches inside the house for the last few days, but going out on my own I decided to take one crutch with me, not so […]

Another lovely day and night

Went to the leafy West End of Glasgow yesterday. It was the most amazing weather and every tree was a different shade of green – even in the city. Glasgow has come a long way since I used to visit my grandparents in the area in the mid 1970s – then every building was black, […]

Exercise going well

I am enjoying the new recumbent exercise bike. In a week I have worked up from 15 minutes to 30 minutes a day. The main problem I have is being too enthusiastic – I am trying not to take my heart rate over 145 for the first few weeks as I haven’t been able to […]

Update to the rodent situation

I think one of the cats (I am still blaming Saphy) had at least three rodents yesterday. The picture is of her chilling after her big day with an abortive picture of Victorian Helensburgh I was trying to paint. One rodent was dead on my doorsill as per yesterday’s post. The second looked dead as […]

Night of the mouse

R is away at a conference. Last night I went to bed around 11pm as usual. I take the Aircast boot off at night and I am not supposed to put weight on my foot without it, so if I need to get up during the night, I have to either put it back on […]

Sex Education

I notice that Sex Education (as it used to be called) is back in the news. I was a very precocious child and was able to read from age of three (my dad taught me in spite of dire warnings from the educational establishment that this was a bad idea). From books and listening in […]
