The loch shows an infinite variety of faces as the light hits it on different days.

Lucky used to be a stray girl but has now found her new identity as a Donich Lodge boy (the vet discovered he was male when we took “her” to be spayed). He would ask you to respect his new pronouns.

The high mountain pass over the Rest and be Thankful is the main route out of the village. Here it is in winter.

Spring sky over the mountain tops.

Sunset from our front door step.

A misty moon over the mountains as darkness falls.

View over towards the loch from near the summit of Cnoc Coinnich.

A rainbow appears in a clear interval between showers.

Lochgoilhead in the distance on a clear spring morning.

As the year turns, the mountains are white on most days.

Looking across the loch from the village, clouds form a band across the hills.

Tora and Schrodi our snow Bengal brothers used to live here. RIP both of you

A dragonfly pauses for a rest by the side of our pond.

The weather here can be appalling. Here gales and torrential rain have blocked one of the village’s few roads.

The colours on the mountains fade to muted browns as autumn approaches.

The Donich Water in one of its kinder moods as it runs through our garden.

One of a myriad insects pollinating our heather.

A group of wild haggis have made a den down by the river.

Our new Highland Tiger Saphy prowling her territory. She is a demon for the wildlife with her specialized prey item being shrews. She is not adverse to mice, voles or birds however.

This is Amber aka as Bramble. She is big, black, rather podgy and a bit of a scaredy cat. We had her cloned shortly after she arrived.

Although we don’t get much snow at loch level, the higher mountains are covered for five months or so of the year

Cats in the woods

As I said the other day, we have builders in at the moment, and this afternoon with the work being quite noisy and the weather beautiful, I thought I would walk right down to the back of our property (about quarter of a mile) and sit by the Donich with a book. Just as I […]

What a fantastic morning….

Well the promised good weather seems to have arrived today. R and I walked out along the Inverlounin road very early this morning and took a few pictures of the loch. It was cool but sunny, with the loch calm and still (no substantial number of midgies yet). We took a few photos just to […]

Better late than…

Haven’t posted in a while as basically haven’t had a lot to report. R and I have been having our garage converted into offices and we have had builders here every day, plus it has rained more or less constantly. I have never seen weather like this in June in my life – it has […]

Big Surface, Little Surface

As anyone who reads this knows, I am a bit of a geek and also a bit of a Microsoft Fangirl. I’ve actually had (at one time – I don’t still have all of them) every Surface in the range apart from the Surface 2. So I started with the original RT which was too […]

Squirrel proof bird pole

Some time ago my Mum bought me a bird pole for a present. I’ve put it just outside the kitchen window and it has been a constant source of interest ever since. We’ve had a wider of variety of birds since we had it – we’ve started to have regular visits from siskins and occasional […]

Waiting for our visitors

We put our Midge Magnet machines out at the weekend and I noticed yesterday that they were starting to catch a few visitors. It is quite depressing really because although still pretty cold (hasn’t been above 10 degrees today for example) everything is starting to look very lovely (cherry blossom, bluebells, fresh green leaves on […]

Another house with visitors

A number of people locally have commented on how lucky R and I are to have all the wildlife in the garden. I actually think that it is not so much that we are lucky – as that most people in Lochgoilhead don’t know about the wildlife they have themselves because they are not seeing […]

Marks and Spencer Diet

I have to admit that there is a reason I haven’t been writing about cooking of late. It was actually my resolution this year to lose at least 2 stone in weight, and I am pleased to report that I have now done this. Fairly obviously I was trying to keep right off the subject […]

Lochgoilhead Weather Page

A while ago R and I bought a Netatmo weather station. At the moment we have three modules – an indoors one (temperature, humidity, noise level, CO2), an outdoors one (Current temperature, max temperature in last day, min temperature in last day, humidity) and a rain gauge (rain in last hour, rain in last 24 […]

Museum Day

Today R was at a meeting in Glasgow so I took the opportunity to hitch a lift with him and meet up with J. It actually feels very weird being in a big city now – I’m so unused to large groups of people, noise, traffic and pollution that it is all a bit disconcerting. […]
