The loch shows an infinite variety of faces as the light hits it on different days.

Lucky used to be a stray girl but has now found her new identity as a Donich Lodge boy (the vet discovered he was male when we took “her” to be spayed). He would ask you to respect his new pronouns.

The high mountain pass over the Rest and be Thankful is the main route out of the village. Here it is in winter.

Spring sky over the mountain tops.

Sunset from our front door step.

A misty moon over the mountains as darkness falls.

View over towards the loch from near the summit of Cnoc Coinnich.

A rainbow appears in a clear interval between showers.

Lochgoilhead in the distance on a clear spring morning.

As the year turns, the mountains are white on most days.

Looking across the loch from the village, clouds form a band across the hills.

Tora and Schrodi our snow Bengal brothers used to live here. RIP both of you

A dragonfly pauses for a rest by the side of our pond.

The weather here can be appalling. Here gales and torrential rain have blocked one of the village’s few roads.

The colours on the mountains fade to muted browns as autumn approaches.

The Donich Water in one of its kinder moods as it runs through our garden.

One of a myriad insects pollinating our heather.

A group of wild haggis have made a den down by the river.

Our new Highland Tiger Saphy prowling her territory. She is a demon for the wildlife with her specialized prey item being shrews. She is not adverse to mice, voles or birds however.

This is Amber aka as Bramble. She is big, black, rather podgy and a bit of a scaredy cat. We had her cloned shortly after she arrived.

Although we don’t get much snow at loch level, the higher mountains are covered for five months or so of the year

Another day another walk

The fantastic weather continues… After being a bit overcast first thing, it had cleared up by 11am, and after an early lunch I set off to walk part of the peninsula loop. The full thing is Lochgoilhead -> Coran Lochan -> Artgartan -> Top of the Rest and be Thankful -> Lochgoilhead which is 23m. […]

Walk to Coran

It was another lovely day today, and as R was testing and I was reporting, I went for a walk down to Coran Lochan at the end of the peninsula on my own. What a gorgeous walk. Bright sunshine and about 12 degrees. It amazes me now that when we first came here we were […]

If I ruled the World…

Every day would be – well – like today, because I think I would call it the first day of spring proper in Lochgoilhead. I was reading somewhere that in Scotland the ‘real’ arrival of spring and summer are typically two to three weeks after the nominal ‘calendar’ start of the season. So 1st March […]

Frog on the Blog

When R opened the front door today ready to set off on our morning walk, we found we had an unexpected guest. He seemed quite fine, but I was concerned the cats might get him, so I carried him down to the pond. He sat up quite calmly on my hand and looked about him, […]

Two Walk Day

The weather yesterday was so lovely that I went for two walks (R only came for one of them). In the morning it was clear and bitterly cold – our pond was frozen over. We went on the upper path – there are no heiland coos there yet but I hope Billy and his harem […]

Lunch

I often make homemade soup and bread for lunch (even though I have a sneaky feeling that R prefers M&S soup to at least some of my efforts). Lentil is one of R’s favourites and it should be everyone’s really as it is healthy, cheap and easy to make. In fact very healthy, very cheap […]

Flowers

I don’t know what this flower is but they are just coming out growing through the stones on our patio – very pretty. Unfortunately I also notice that a holly bush we have in the garden has set out a lot of seedlings which are also sprouting on the patio. I’ll definitely have to get […]

Mothers’ Day

I got my Mum some flowers for Mothers’ Day – and also something quite different and nice which was an afternoon tea hamper, complete with a china cup and saucer. The wicker hamper wouldn’t last long with Tora about – he has completely destroyed the one we got for a Christmas present a few years […]

Alpine Morning

I wouldn’t have believed it – but this morning the snow is back with alpine views over the mountains. R and I scared a heron off our pond this morning and there are plenty of signs of spring around the village, but the snow being back definitely shows us that winter has not departed for […]

Spectacular sunset this evening

Another beautiful day today – I am sure it is preparing itself to pour with rain on Friday when I have the day off. There was a fair sprinkling of snow this morning, but by the time R and I were on our way back from our walk, it had cleared up, and by this […]
