Norfolk life

We are living well here down in the soft south. Yesterday we had a cream tea with homemade scones from the Walsingham Farm Shop, gooseberry preserve and clotted cream. This morning we had a full English again from the farm shop with local bacon, sausages and eggs. I might get fat apart from Norfolk life […]

China

I’ve spent most of today helping J pack up his mother’s china cabinet – this was a big job as she was a keen attender of auction sales. Many of the items are singleton tea and coffee cups, obviously survivors from very splendid sets indeed as they are surpassingly beautiful.  It was a real shame […]

Sunny Norfolk

Went down to sunny Norfolk to help J pack up his house there as he has now sold it. The weather down here really is sunny although pretty cold. We walked out to the Slipper Chapel and back – it was very lovely walking out along the disused railway track and rather less lovely walking […]

The Lucky hole

We found this wildlife hole on our way back from our walk.  What could have made it? Was it a badger?  A marten? An otter? I sees who it is. Though actually it could be one of the other creatures that made it and Lucky is just using it.

Bye Bye Bert

Storm has abated today.  R and I walked over to Drimsynie.  The plan had been to find a flight of stairs to walk up and down and also to go on to the high path to see how rough under foot it is. We found some stairs, unfortunately neither were ideal for my purposes because […]

Hello Bert

Foul weather today.  Here a load of precipitation turned into very wet snow which then semi-melted into a layer of slippery mush on the drive.  I was back confined to barracks because of the risk of falling with my foot and R had to feed the creatures (at least the foot part is my story […]

Lucky mouse chase

Fortunately not the real thing, but a catnip mouse Saphy left in the lounge a few weeks ago.  Lucky has never shown the least bit of interest in it, or any other toy apart from pieces of string (and R’s trousers, and human hands), but this morning he suddenly saw it and went for it […]

Winter is y-comen in

It’s been freezing cold white frost for the last few days.  The back garden has never even defrosted when the sun hit it. Amber went into hiding while I was changing R’s sheets.  Apart from that she has found a new place right next to the radiator. Then this afternoon right after R and I […]

Venison

As will be apparent from other posts, I am a big fan of both natural (i.e not ultra-processed) and locally produced/seasonal food. I’m trying to wean myself off things we can’t grow in UK, or more exactly, I am trying to buy the things we can grow in this country in the proper season when […]

The end of the road

Walked to Inverlounin House this morning.  This is as far as you can get along the “coast road” – Fitbit says 4.71 miles return to Donich Lodge, but Google Earth says 4.2 miles (like it or not I suspect the Google reading is correct).  On the way we saw a nice heron taking off as […]
