A walk in the woods

The weather has been a bit better the last few days and R and I went for a walk through the Community Garden and back to the road along the riverside. This path is about as close as flat and smooth as you get around here and is better for my foot than the one […]

Another nutritious meal

In my on-going campaign against processed food, this was our main meal today. Cut two large peppers in half, drizzle with olive oil and cook in oven for 15 minutes or so. Fry an onion with some pine kernels, then add a tin of red kidney beans, olives and chilis to your taste. Sprinkle thickly […]

Double decker cats

R has some “shelves” in his office – only they are not for books. This is what they are for. Interestingly, after a brief flirtation with the cat tree in the lounge, Lucky stopped using it and has once again returned solely to ground level. His favourite place is in a corner of the lounge […]

Garden Reborn

Two very enterprising young men from the village came over yesterday and in one (very long) day, completely cleared our garden. Unfortunately, I forgot to take any “before” pictures – but at the front the docks and bracken were at near shoulder height, and the back garden was a near impenetrable wilderness. Basically the whole […]

Given up

I have given up on my resistance to Microsoft bit by bit moving me into their cloud (by amongst other things, insidiously storing my data in One Drive). I noticed the other day that my Windows desktop files were all of a sudden on One Drive. Now I am pretty sure that this didn’t happen […]

Moving further away from ultra processed food

As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve never been at all a fan of processed food in general, and specifically ultra processed food. While I had the bad foot though, I was not really capable of standing up in the kitchen for long periods of time, so I had to take some short cuts. I didn’t buy […]

Bees out in force

There were bees all over this bramble bush during a brief sunny period on our walk. I’m glad to see them doing so well here as they are struggling in other parts of the country.

All the way round

Today I walked all the way round the Inverlounin loop. We went up to the cow field and through the two gates. When we got beyond them on to the hill proper, the path was very rough (a legacy of the heavy rains in October). I’d not really intended to walk the whole loop today […]

Puppy Dog Tails

We have been burning the old roof to our shed bit by bit in our incinerator. When R went to break up the last piece, he checked underneath it (looking for amphibians mainly) and found it had been colonized by many snails! All were removed to a place of safety.

Naughty cat

Saphy did not cover herself with glory yesterday. First of all, she was sitting on my desk quite calmly. R came in and we were having a chat, when all of a sudden, Saphy’s tail started to flutter. We ignored it for a few seconds and the fluttering got more vigorous. “She’s spraying” I shouted. […]
