London and back

London and back

Went to London with R for a few days to deliver a workshop on computer security. That went pretty well but I won’t burden you on the contents of it as this blog is supposed to be about Highland Life and not Kubernetes (go look it up).

After the workshop we went for a walkaround to look at the lights. R did this with reasonably good grace (although I did not get the impression that he really enjoyed himself). We discovered that on the Saturday before Christmas, every single restaurant is completely packed out, with queues out of the doors starting at 5:30pm. In the end we went to an extremely indifferent Indian restaurant in Knightsbridge where they charged us £110 for a meal I could have made for £20.

The flights both there and back were a nightmare – absolutely packed and with nowhere to put your bags. On the return flight the child sitting behind me interrupted his continual moaning and complaining with sporadic vomiting. As R put it, a good advertisement for contraception. Next time I am taking the train.

Anyway, we had a good time. We wandered all over London, more than 20,000 steps on Sunday and up and down what must have been 50 flights of steps and my foot was fine.
