The loch shows an infinite variety of faces as the light hits it on different days.

Lucky used to be a stray girl but has now found her new identity as a Donich Lodge boy (the vet discovered he was male when we took “her” to be spayed). He would ask you to respect his new pronouns.

The high mountain pass over the Rest and be Thankful is the main route out of the village. Here it is in winter.

Spring sky over the mountain tops.

Sunset from our front door step.

A misty moon over the mountains as darkness falls.

View over towards the loch from near the summit of Cnoc Coinnich.

A rainbow appears in a clear interval between showers.

Lochgoilhead in the distance on a clear spring morning.

As the year turns, the mountains are white on most days.

Looking across the loch from the village, clouds form a band across the hills.

Tora and Schrodi our snow Bengal brothers used to live here. RIP both of you

A dragonfly pauses for a rest by the side of our pond.

The weather here can be appalling. Here gales and torrential rain have blocked one of the village’s few roads.

The colours on the mountains fade to muted browns as autumn approaches.

The Donich Water in one of its kinder moods as it runs through our garden.

One of a myriad insects pollinating our heather.

A group of wild haggis have made a den down by the river.

Our new Highland Tiger Saphy prowling her territory. She is a demon for the wildlife with her specialized prey item being shrews. She is not adverse to mice, voles or birds however.

This is Amber aka as Bramble. She is big, black, rather podgy and a bit of a scaredy cat. We had her cloned shortly after she arrived.

Although we don’t get much snow at loch level, the higher mountains are covered for five months or so of the year

The trouble with LPG

Living out in the wilds as we do, our central heating and gas runs on LPG which lives in a tank in the garden and is periodically topped up by Calor when we start to get low. Eleven days ago we notified them that we were at 19% and needed a refill. Three phone calls […]

Snow on the Steeple

The hill just between Lochgoilhead and Cnoc Coinnich is called “The Steeple” although it is not very high at 378m (it’s a nice little climb with good views but a bit muddy and pathless). I was told by a local once (well I am a local now – but I mean a long time local) […]

Me and my Fitbit

I got two new badges for lifetime achievements the other day. I prefer the lifetime achievement ones because they are on-going – the trouble with the one for steps in a day is that having got the award for 55K steps (26 miles) it is a bit hard to go any further than that. And […]

Nice walk today – but is spring on its way?

It was bitterly cold but sunny today, and as I wasn’t testing, I took myself off for a walk on my own. I went up round the back of Drimsynie and up on to the circular walk, then at the top of the hill, crossed to the higher path. This winds through the hills with […]

Another Silly looking Gate

I found another stupid gate to go with the one on the Cowal Way which had been put in the middle of a stream. This one is even better – it’s at the entrance to the top dam at the new Hydro near Ben Donich and it is a substantial gate, capable I am sure […]

Two Hearts

I saw this stone when I was out walking on my own the other day. It is nearly as good a heart shape as the famous one at St Michael’s Mount in Cornwall which is supposed to be the heart of the giant which Jack killed. This one is the Cornish heart… And this is […]

How do they know?

What I want to know is, when two cats are asleep in an office right at the end of a large house, how do they know within 30 seconds when a chicken breast has been put into the microwave? However it is, they use the same mysterious power to detect when clean sheets or (better) […]

Update on the baby Hedgehogs

Some time before Christmas I had the great fun of visiting some orphaned baby hedgehogs who had been taken in by a friend of my Mum’s who is a White Witch. Well today I got an update on them… Last year they were small and looking rather sad as they had had a series of […]

On a roll

I’m a massive fan of a certain form of three cornered brown roll they sell in Lidl. I’ve been buying them for years and only noticed the other day that they said “High Protein”. I investigated further and discovered that they actually are made from linseeds and only have 10g of carb per 120g roll. […]

Sheep Rescue

This morning R and I were doing our usual waterfall walk. It was our day to go to Glasgow so we had to go early so it was still dark – but clear and with a nearly full moon, so that it was light enough to be able to see where we were going. R […]
