This is Mr Prickles, a hedgehog. This box arrived with an ornament packed in it and he promptly co-opted it for his hibernation needs come winter.
We’ve had two enormous red deer stags in our garden of late. Apparently they have been seen all over the village and some meanies don’t like them. I like them even though they have been destroying our seed feeders. The best one is of one of them peering through the window right at R.
Beautiful weather for it, and no sign of any midges.

I made some nice soda bread today using a Paul Hollywood recipe, but adding Orkney cheddar (I still think that is a contradiction as surely cheddar comes from the Cheddar Gorge in England?), onion and sage. Very tasty and quick to make.
I put together a little “Pirate Day” just for fun. The image above is the skull and bones tablecloth. This was the treasure chest cake.
We have had lots of wildlife in the garden. Just last night there was a pine marten, two badgers and a fox. Also we have two bullfinches back – although all the siskins have vanished.
