The loch shows an infinite variety of faces as the light hits it on different days.

Lucky used to be a stray girl but has now found her new identity as a Donich Lodge boy (the vet discovered he was male when we took “her” to be spayed). He would ask you to respect his new pronouns.

The high mountain pass over the Rest and be Thankful is the main route out of the village. Here it is in winter.

Spring sky over the mountain tops.

Sunset from our front door step.

A misty moon over the mountains as darkness falls.

View over towards the loch from near the summit of Cnoc Coinnich.

A rainbow appears in a clear interval between showers.

Lochgoilhead in the distance on a clear spring morning.

As the year turns, the mountains are white on most days.

Looking across the loch from the village, clouds form a band across the hills.

Tora and Schrodi our snow Bengal brothers used to live here. RIP both of you

A dragonfly pauses for a rest by the side of our pond.

The weather here can be appalling. Here gales and torrential rain have blocked one of the village’s few roads.

The colours on the mountains fade to muted browns as autumn approaches.

The Donich Water in one of its kinder moods as it runs through our garden.

One of a myriad insects pollinating our heather.

A group of wild haggis have made a den down by the river.

Our new Highland Tiger Saphy prowling her territory. She is a demon for the wildlife with her specialized prey item being shrews. She is not adverse to mice, voles or birds however.

This is Amber aka as Bramble. She is big, black, rather podgy and a bit of a scaredy cat. We had her cloned shortly after she arrived.

Although we don’t get much snow at loch level, the higher mountains are covered for five months or so of the year

Rain and more rain

Now I am broadly back to normal, I want to try to get the garden back into shape. It has become very overgrown, and the area round the pond in particular needs a lot of work. But ever since I have been ready to get started, it has poured it down with rain. It was […]

We are the sheep

R bought me this for Christmas and I just put it in the guest bathroom. It reminds me of the Teletubbies “We are the sheep”.

The White Lady

I grew my Christmas cactus who I call “The White Lady” from a single leaf. I’ve had her for over ten years, and normally she has masses of pinkish white flowers around December. This year, she only had one flower the week before Christmas, and looking at her, I realized that she is badly in […]

A blast from the past

While throwing things away we found a box of ancient floppy disks – including a copy of Windows 95 on floppy disk. I am thinking of installing it as my new OS – at least it wouldn’t keep stuffing CoPilot down my throat. Come back Clippy, all is forgiven

By day and night

In Inverness again. It really is a most attractive city (even in Feb). This was the view walking along the river Ness in the afternoon. This was the view from my window in the Premier Inn (seriously impressed by their premium rooms btw). Possibly most importantly – this was the view of my Highland Burger […]

Off on my travels again

I seem to have spent more of my time away than at home recently. This week back up north to continue pushing our training course, followed by back to Glasgow to continue the epic clean up of the flat J is selling. Saphy either didn’t want me to go, or wanted to come with me.

Beautiful rainbow today

R and I walked out to Drimsynie Beg this afternoon. It was sunny and raining at the same time in true Argyll style, and we saw a fantastic rainbow. This evening I also passed another milestone by managing to balance on my left leg for 30 seconds without holding on to anything. Three months after […]

Some interesting effects

After the strangely mild but clear day yesterday, it is back to cold and frosty this morning. R noticed some strange effects outside. A small bush had been knocked over by the storm a couple of weeks back. Obviously sap had leaked from the broken stems and then frozen into swirls. The first image looks […]
