The loch shows an infinite variety of faces as the light hits it on different days.

Lucky used to be a stray girl but has now found her new identity as a Donich Lodge boy (the vet discovered he was male when we took “her” to be spayed). He would ask you to respect his new pronouns.

The high mountain pass over the Rest and be Thankful is the main route out of the village. Here it is in winter.

Spring sky over the mountain tops.

Sunset from our front door step.

A misty moon over the mountains as darkness falls.

View over towards the loch from near the summit of Cnoc Coinnich.

A rainbow appears in a clear interval between showers.

Lochgoilhead in the distance on a clear spring morning.

As the year turns, the mountains are white on most days.

Looking across the loch from the village, clouds form a band across the hills.

Tora and Schrodi our snow Bengal brothers used to live here. RIP both of you

A dragonfly pauses for a rest by the side of our pond.

The weather here can be appalling. Here gales and torrential rain have blocked one of the village’s few roads.

The colours on the mountains fade to muted browns as autumn approaches.

The Donich Water in one of its kinder moods as it runs through our garden.

One of a myriad insects pollinating our heather.

A group of wild haggis have made a den down by the river.

Our new Highland Tiger Saphy prowling her territory. She is a demon for the wildlife with her specialized prey item being shrews. She is not adverse to mice, voles or birds however.

This is Amber aka as Bramble. She is big, black, rather podgy and a bit of a scaredy cat. We had her cloned shortly after she arrived.

Although we don’t get much snow at loch level, the higher mountains are covered for five months or so of the year

Still no sign of Amber

We have still not seen Amber.  We would be worried about her, but overnight she appeared on our webcam, creeping stealthily down the hall.  We were warned that she was a bit timid. Saphy acts as though she has always lived here.  She is not showing any urgent desire to go outside, so we will […]

Saphy

When we opened the bedroom door this morning, Saphy was sitting looking at us.  She seems a bit nervous but quickly warmed to us and came through to the lounge. There is no immediate sign of Amber, so we have all the outside doors closed and the bedroom door open for her when she decides […]

We got the girls

We picked the girls up in Arrochar today.  All we saw of them were some scared eyes in a tabby face, and a huddle of black fur at the back of one of the carriers. We had the spare room all prepared with food, toys, two new beds and a litter tray, and just as […]

Lone sheep

We saw a lone sheep in the woods today.  It seemed quite happy on its own. I would have expected it might have had a lamb with it, but no sign and it is very early in the year for lambs this far north.

Getting some cold ones

It has been bitterly cold for the last few days. Because my office is in the garage extension we had built, it is not on the central heating, and I am reliant on the electric air heat pump which is part of the air conditioning system.  It heats the room ok, but it dries the […]

A momentous decision

R and I have been talking about this and decided that the house is just miserable without cats in it.  I don’t really believe in mourning for a long time – we loved Tora and Schrodi, they had great lives, they grew old and we gave them clean deaths before they had to suffer.  It […]

Container Coo

Most of R’s work is with “containers” now.  By this I mean Docker and Kubernetes, and if you don’t know what those are, I am not going to explain.  They are computer things. Anyway, as a sort of joke, R had a logo made for himself for a conference he is speaking at about these […]

A bit better now

I’ve sort of recovered enough to be able to hobble about the house and type with both hands.  I still can’t go out of the house or really do much apart from watch videos. The picture above shows the dismal weather which is about the way I feel.

Double plus ungood

This has not just been an annus horribilis, it has been an annus super horribilis. The day before Christmas Eve I tripped on the lip of the shower and stumbled over it onto the floor which was smooth wet marble and as slippy as ice.  I fell headlong on to it, cracked my head and […]

Tree up

Got the tree up.  Can’t say I am feeling that festive though. I got rid of all the cat beds and toys – they were all too battered about to go to a new home and I didn’t want to see them around the place.  There was a massive amount of cat food pouches left […]
