The loch shows an infinite variety of faces as the light hits it on different days.

Lucky used to be a stray girl but has now found her new identity as a Donich Lodge boy (the vet discovered he was male when we took “her” to be spayed). He would ask you to respect his new pronouns.

The high mountain pass over the Rest and be Thankful is the main route out of the village. Here it is in winter.

Spring sky over the mountain tops.

Sunset from our front door step.

A misty moon over the mountains as darkness falls.

View over towards the loch from near the summit of Cnoc Coinnich.

A rainbow appears in a clear interval between showers.

Lochgoilhead in the distance on a clear spring morning.

As the year turns, the mountains are white on most days.

Looking across the loch from the village, clouds form a band across the hills.

Tora and Schrodi our snow Bengal brothers used to live here. RIP both of you

A dragonfly pauses for a rest by the side of our pond.

The weather here can be appalling. Here gales and torrential rain have blocked one of the village’s few roads.

The colours on the mountains fade to muted browns as autumn approaches.

The Donich Water in one of its kinder moods as it runs through our garden.

One of a myriad insects pollinating our heather.

A group of wild haggis have made a den down by the river.

Our new Highland Tiger Saphy prowling her territory. She is a demon for the wildlife with her specialized prey item being shrews. She is not adverse to mice, voles or birds however.

This is Amber aka as Bramble. She is big, black, rather podgy and a bit of a scaredy cat. We had her cloned shortly after she arrived.

Although we don’t get much snow at loch level, the higher mountains are covered for five months or so of the year

Mega effort in my last few days

When I say “my last few days” – I don’t mean last days ever (or at least I hope not), but just last few days before Tuesday when I go into hospital. I’ll be back home on Thursday, but I’ll be off my feet in a wheelchair again for some indeterminate period of time, and […]

Well done good and faithful servants

My trainer shoes were sadly retired to the flames today. Apart from a pair of sports sandals, these were the only shoes I have been able to wear for the last year. The sides had gone all saggy and the soles were worn right away – particularly on the left where they were worn right […]

Another Garden of Dreams

It will be J’s birthday next week – in fact the day I get out of hospital after my operation. We were supposed to be having a little meal for him on 10th, but I am going to be far from my best that day – so we met up in Rhu today instead. As […]

Sad to say

It saddens me to say this, but the operation on my foot has not been successful. Basically it is worse than it was before the operation, and a CT scan taken at 3 months has shown that it is still tilted over to one side and is therefore going to continue to pain me if […]

Rowley again

Rowley has sprouted a pair of googly eyes, the better to see around the lawn. R did a first run right round with him and here is a shot of the result. Front and back took less than an hour. The cats looked on.

Mixed success with carbonara

Spaghetti Carbonara has always been a favourite of both R and I. The other day (as he does) R had been trawling round the Internet and found a website where they sell the ingredients for “real Italian carbonara”. As a keen cook I had been aware that Italians consider the British take on the carbonara […]

It must be love

Ever since we have had him in the house, Lucky has had a strange habit related to a specific pair of trousers much beloved by R. These are quite an expensive style of joggers called “Silverstick”, and as well R liking them, Lucky definitely has a “taste” for them too. Basically, whenever R is around […]

Our Mowrator – Rowley

A few months ago we bought a “Mowrator”. This came off a Kickstarter project to create a remote controlled robot lawn mower. There are plenty of robot mowers available in UK, but in general they are of the sort where you let them go in a designated area and leave them to do their stuff. […]

Resting Lucky

I thought Lucky was out last night (as is his wont) but when I went to the kitchen for a snack at 10pm he was there asleep underneath a radiator in the lounge If you look closely at where he is lying in the photo, you will see the mess his fur has made on […]

Waiting tolerance

I was just reading about the Cloudstrike induced IT outage this morning. One of the BBC headlines was “Edinburgh airport passengers go with the flow” – apparently people were patiently and indefinitely waiting for flights. This made me think about my own tolerance levels for waiting around, which I will say are not high. Basically […]
