Dressing change

That is a week since the operation.  I am actually feeling fine now – my foot was only seriously sore (as in keeping me awake at night sore) for three days.  I’m using a combination of the aircast boot, crutches and a wheelchair at the moment and am managing with minimal inconvenience.  Obviously I learned a few things about how to manage last time I was in this situation.  Anyway, being able to partially weight bear is infinitely better than trying to keep my foot completely off the floor all the time.

Today we went back to Ross Hall and I had the dressing changed by the nurse.  There were yards and yards of gauze came off together with quite a bit of dried blood – R did not come into the treatment room with me, and just as well!  My foot looked a bit gruesome with all the stitches, but seems to be coming along ok.

The nurse was from Nepal and was very nice but not greatly proficient in English.  I explained to her that I had been to Darjeeling many years ago, and she had also been there.  Then I tried to explain where Lochgoilhead was, and this did not prove to be possible as she hadn’t even heard of Loch Lomond.  I find this a bit hard to believe, but anyway, I told her that she should get someone to take her there when she gets some time off.  I don’t suppose she will find our little Scottish mountains that impressive.
