Coming up for a week in
That is nearly a week since my operation and I am seeing the nurse tomorrow to get my dressing changed. A week on from then I see the consultant and all the stiches and clips come out.
I am what they call “50% weight bearing on crutches” until 4th September. This means that I can stand on both feet unassisted, but am not supposed to walk with all my weight on the boot without leaning on two crutches. In practice this means that I tend just to use the wheelchair for scooting about the house because the crutches provide little advantage while they are in both hands, as I can’t carry anything around with me.
I did some gentle exercises with the boot on today, and will walk up and down the hall with the crutches tonight. I’ve started doing some cooking and housework as well. In the kitchen I can stand up to do basic cooking but I can’t do anything elaborate on my own as I can’t carry anything hot or messy around.
I had a quick look at my foot with the boot off. This is the expurgated view from the top (the view from the side is less nice as there is lots of blood on the dressing).
I cleaned the “this way up arrow” off my leg. I also had a proper shower with a shower cast over my Aircast boot – I can stand ok putting about 75% of my weight through my right leg.
For comparison with my original operation which took place on 13th April – today is the equivalent of 19th April.
I won’t put a picture of my foot as the top image in case it “triggers” anyone. Instead is a picture of a beautiful moonrise over Bheula which R took last night.
