The loch shows an infinite variety of faces as the light hits it on different days.

Lucky used to be a stray girl but has now found her new identity as a Donich Lodge boy (the vet discovered he was male when we took “her” to be spayed). He would ask you to respect his new pronouns.

The high mountain pass over the Rest and be Thankful is the main route out of the village. Here it is in winter.

Spring sky over the mountain tops.

Sunset from our front door step.

A misty moon over the mountains as darkness falls.

View over towards the loch from near the summit of Cnoc Coinnich.

A rainbow appears in a clear interval between showers.

Lochgoilhead in the distance on a clear spring morning.

As the year turns, the mountains are white on most days.

Looking across the loch from the village, clouds form a band across the hills.

Tora and Schrodi our snow Bengal brothers used to live here. RIP both of you

A dragonfly pauses for a rest by the side of our pond.

The weather here can be appalling. Here gales and torrential rain have blocked one of the village’s few roads.

The colours on the mountains fade to muted browns as autumn approaches.

The Donich Water in one of its kinder moods as it runs through our garden.

One of a myriad insects pollinating our heather.

A group of wild haggis have made a den down by the river.

Our new Highland Tiger Saphy prowling her territory. She is a demon for the wildlife with her specialized prey item being shrews. She is not adverse to mice, voles or birds however.

This is Amber aka as Bramble. She is big, black, rather podgy and a bit of a scaredy cat. We had her cloned shortly after she arrived.

Although we don’t get much snow at loch level, the higher mountains are covered for five months or so of the year

First Day of Mousemas

As ever, 18th is the first day of Mousemas as celebrated by all Donich kitties. It is a carry over from the earlier mid-winter festival of “vole”. Our tree is already up.

Still in the Land of the Living

Had my shoulder replacement operation. Great care from staff at Ross Hall and nice room. They even let me home a day early as all seems to be going ok and weather tomorrow is forecast to be awful. Arm in sling and strictly forbidden to use, so all posts will be short and to the […]

Christmas Project

I’m not on for doing anything too vigorous at the moment because of my arm (and on that note, I won’t be writing much for the next few weeks as I am off to hospital today for a shoulder replacement operation). So I made a Christmas project which didn’t involve two hands or heavy lifting. […]

String

Since we acquired him (or vice versa), Lucky has never been known to play. We’ve tried him with all sorts of toys, but he never seemed to get the hang of it, and I have a theory about this. No one in the village had seen or heard of Lucky, and we think he was […]

Loch Lomond and Art

Went to Glasgow in the car today. It was a lovely day here, and all our “local” mountains were covered in snow – down to about 400m at a guess. Going alongside Loch Lomond, it was just as pretty, with “The Ben” (as we used to call it as children) jutting far above the other […]

What makes for good food… Not this…

I may get shot down as a philistine for this. But having watched MasterChef both amateur and professional versions for many years I am afraid that my tolerance for any more of the wank they have been turning out of late is now at an end. Last week was the finals, and the contestants were […]

Lucky on the bed

Lucky now sleeps in the room which used to belong to J. The case is my part packed one for hospital next week, and he sleeps behind it against the radiator and next to some rather nervous toys. It must be a dream to him having a warm soft place to sleep and unlimited Felix […]

Red legs and a tail

R is away in London (again!). He normally feeds the cats and makes the coffee in the mornings, because Lucky (although largely domesticated now) is still suffering from some aggression issues. Specifically when he is “hangry” in the mornings, he has a tendency to swipe out at the legs and hands that are trying to […]

Saphy and the Spider

We bought Saphy a “spider on a rod” toy for Christmas. Amber is getting prawns, and Lucky is getting cream – but Saphy is not very food oriented. So I put the spider on top of the pile of presents ready for wrapping. Within five minutes she had found it and was trying to unwrap […]

Chat GPT Christmas dinner instructions

As R is making the Christmas Dinner this year for the first time as I will have my arm in a sling, I (out of the goodness of my heart) sent him some detailed instructions as to how to prepare it and effectively run his kitchen and drinks service. For my trouble I got this […]
