The loch shows an infinite variety of faces as the light hits it on different days.

Lucky used to be a stray girl but has now found her new identity as a Donich Lodge boy (the vet discovered he was male when we took “her” to be spayed). He would ask you to respect his new pronouns.

The high mountain pass over the Rest and be Thankful is the main route out of the village. Here it is in winter.

Spring sky over the mountain tops.

Sunset from our front door step.

A misty moon over the mountains as darkness falls.

View over towards the loch from near the summit of Cnoc Coinnich.

A rainbow appears in a clear interval between showers.

Lochgoilhead in the distance on a clear spring morning.

As the year turns, the mountains are white on most days.

Looking across the loch from the village, clouds form a band across the hills.

Tora and Schrodi our snow Bengal brothers used to live here. RIP both of you

A dragonfly pauses for a rest by the side of our pond.

The weather here can be appalling. Here gales and torrential rain have blocked one of the village’s few roads.

The colours on the mountains fade to muted browns as autumn approaches.

The Donich Water in one of its kinder moods as it runs through our garden.

One of a myriad insects pollinating our heather.

A group of wild haggis have made a den down by the river.

Our new Highland Tiger Saphy prowling her territory. She is a demon for the wildlife with her specialized prey item being shrews. She is not adverse to mice, voles or birds however.

This is Amber aka as Bramble. She is big, black, rather podgy and a bit of a scaredy cat. We had her cloned shortly after she arrived.

Although we don’t get much snow at loch level, the higher mountains are covered for five months or so of the year

Something to remember it by

I went out this evening after work to buy a few little presents for R, J and my Mum. After half an hour of looking in tourist shops I decided not to bother. It is one thing buying something of dubious utility (read tourist tat) for a few pounds – but another when it costs […]

Top of the World

Last night I noticed that there was a scenic funicular railway running from the centre of Bergen right up to the top of the (high) range of hills behind the city. So after work today I thought I would have a little stroll to the station at the bottom, take the train to the top […]

In Bergen

I seem to have been away from the banks of the Donich an awful lot recently. This week it is Bergen, Norway on work – but I am swearing to myself that I am not doing any more on-sites after this because it was a bit of an awful journey (via Amsterdam – took nearly […]

Vote for Bob

This is the RSPB’s campaign to get government to pay some attention to wildlife and eco issues. I’ve voted for him and hope everyone who reads this will go to https://www.voteforbob.co.uk/ and cast their vote so that the score will be at over 100000 before he goes to Westminster with the petition on 15th October. […]

Home again, home again

Had a great holiday but nice to be back home. I’ve put the description of what we did day by day up on the site now – but a big thank you to V for the wildlife photos. They all look really great but Schrodi says his favourite is the one of the short tailed […]

Aigas – Day 7

We were quite sad this morning as it was our last day at Aigas. I went for one final early morning walk round the loch to look for beavers. If there was any justice in the world I would have seen one – but in spite of spending ten minutes hopefully peering at a patch […]

Aigas – Day 6

Again we got up at 6am, and again went to the Loch to look for beavers. Again we saw nothing apart from mist and the occasional ripple as a (small) fish turned over. We have been so lucky seeing everything else that I almost think that the beavers have left and are now living the […]

Aigas – Day 5

This was another big day – we went out to the west coast with much to see and a long drive to get there. The bird group had gone the day before and had brought back an impressive ‘trophy list’ involving five sea eagles and an otter (amongst other things), but they had not been […]

Aigas – Day 4

This was our ‘rest day’ so not so much happened today – thank goodness as we have had so much on that I was starting to think I would need another holiday when we get home. Got up at 6:30 on my own this time to have yet another crack at seeing a beaver. It […]

Aigas – Day 3

We were up again at 6am – this time to go to the tree top hide where we were told we could see the red and roe deer coming up out of the woods at dawn to spend their day on the high moor. We waited about half an hour with no luck – and […]
