The loch shows an infinite variety of faces as the light hits it on different days.

Lucky used to be a stray girl but has now found her new identity as a Donich Lodge boy (the vet discovered he was male when we took “her” to be spayed). He would ask you to respect his new pronouns.

The high mountain pass over the Rest and be Thankful is the main route out of the village. Here it is in winter.

Spring sky over the mountain tops.

Sunset from our front door step.

A misty moon over the mountains as darkness falls.

View over towards the loch from near the summit of Cnoc Coinnich.

A rainbow appears in a clear interval between showers.

Lochgoilhead in the distance on a clear spring morning.

As the year turns, the mountains are white on most days.

Looking across the loch from the village, clouds form a band across the hills.

Tora and Schrodi our snow Bengal brothers used to live here. RIP both of you

A dragonfly pauses for a rest by the side of our pond.

The weather here can be appalling. Here gales and torrential rain have blocked one of the village’s few roads.

The colours on the mountains fade to muted browns as autumn approaches.

The Donich Water in one of its kinder moods as it runs through our garden.

One of a myriad insects pollinating our heather.

A group of wild haggis have made a den down by the river.

Our new Highland Tiger Saphy prowling her territory. She is a demon for the wildlife with her specialized prey item being shrews. She is not adverse to mice, voles or birds however.

This is Amber aka as Bramble. She is big, black, rather podgy and a bit of a scaredy cat. We had her cloned shortly after she arrived.

Although we don’t get much snow at loch level, the higher mountains are covered for five months or so of the year

Collars

Schrodi has just come in minus his collar for the second time in about six weeks. Just to explain for anyone who hasn’t read the full back story to this blog; our two cats have tracking collars which come from USA (www.thecatlocator.com) and enable us to locate them within a range of about half a […]

Improvised ‘Hide’

I had an idea the other night. When we were at Aigas last year we watched badgers from a hide which had wide open windows right close to them (so close you hear them hoovering up the nuts) and glancing out of the kitchen window just as it was getting dark, I saw one of […]

If it fits I sits

My mum brought me a little boudoir chair for my bedroom the other day. Before it was even in the house, Schrodi was trying to sit on it in the driveway, but now it is ensconced in the bedroom, he gave it a serious baptism by sleeping on it for several hours. I wouldn’t have […]

Home from home

I forgot to mention in my post about York that we saw a familiar name on a sign – and sure enough – there was our local restaurant… I love seafood and like the (original) Loch Fyne Oyster Bar but I do draw the line at travelling 200+ miles to eat seafood which has travelled […]

Trip to York

R and I just got back from York with my brother N and my friend J. J is lucky enough to have a birthday in August, so the four of us always seem to end up doing something nice for it (last year we took a boat out on Loch Goil). R and I have […]

Shy denizens of the Woodlands….

My bird book describes the Jay as a ‘shy woodland bird’. I just went into the kitchen and there were six immature but large jays around the feeding area; two were clinging to the fat balls we put out for the tits, and one was hanging from the bottom of the peanut feeder. Last year […]

Nice little Fawn in our garden

Saw this little beauty in the back garden the other day. The photo is not so great because it was in the distance through a window – but he was a lovely little ‘bambi-style’ spotty fawn. He bounced about having a good play for a while under the watchful eye of Mum who was helping […]

Weather as expected….

Well the weather for the Gala Day was pretty much as expected. We went down to put the CWA marquee up with R wearing a waterproof and me making the assumption that as the sun was shining I would not get soaking wet in the five minutes it would take to do it. Bad plan. […]

Gala Day Tomorrow

Well it is our Gala Day tomorrow. The fridge is full of strawberries and cream ready to portion out, and the dining room table is covered with biscuits and cakes – all in aid of the Cormonachan Woodlands Group that I am a member of. I really hope the weather will be ok tomorrow – […]

Windows 10 Day

As I think I have mentioned before – I am a bit of a Windows Fan. Today as everyone probably knows (unless they have been living in a hole in the ground), Windows 10 was released. I have it installed on my desktop and one of my Surfaces, and so far it is pretty nice. […]
