Return of the Heron

Another beautiful morning and our friend the heron (or at least a similar looking heron) is back on the pond. Interestingly – I read somewhere that frogs are not much seen between the breeding season (which here in Argyll was in March) and late July when they re-emerge (not sure why this is). I had been hoping to get an iconic picture of a frog on a lily pad – but this does not seem likely because the heron has other plans for the frogs – this morning he had an enormous one which he had difficulty in swallowing.

He seems quite fearless and let me get some close shots of him. Not sure what he would make of the cats – although at more than a meter tall I don’t think they would be much of a threat to him.
