Down South….

Here we are down south. Cambridge is a pretty place, much as I remember it from my University days (late 80s). It always did have a faint air of being a parody of itself (all the high class shops trying to look as though they have been there since 1800 when in fact they were […]

Vegan Cookery Weekend

My sister-in-law is kindly looking after the cats while we are away. She is a long-time veggie who is trying out veganism – so I have been having a go at cooking vegan for a couple of days. Actually it is not that difficult because R doesn’t like eggs – so we don’t have many […]

Following on from my previous post

Bag all packed and clean, folded, ironed clothes placed in it. Reason for this being that last time we were going away, Schrodi slept on the clean folded ironed clothes and they had to be redone. Well this time that didn’t happen – Tora just cut out the middle man and slept in the bag […]

Off to Cambridge…

Next week R and I will be off to the big city (well relatively speaking). We are attending OWASP AppSec EU where I am presenting on Windows Store Apps and we are both attending some training on mobile testing (testing mobile apps that is). I bought myself an appropriate T-Shirt to wear for my presentation!

Attempted walk to Ben Beulah

Tried to walk to Ben Beulah again and unfortunately failed. What looked as though it might be a possible path tailed out where the forestry activity had ended. We’ll need to try again by the official route once we get out of the very hot part of the year. Having said this – it was […]

Food from the Garden (and Lidl)

I’m getting food from the garden almost every day now. Yesterday I harvested the first crop of new potatoes, onions and herbs and decided to make a special dish. This one is vegan (or optionally not if you feel a bit self-indulgent). I also have to mention at this point that my own tomatoes are […]

Wildlife Pond

We have a large pond (c. 4m across) in our garden. We’ve tried to make it a bit of a haven for local wildlife (or that’s my story for not keeping it well groomed anyway). We seem to have been pretty successful because it is a riot of colour and life at the moment. Three […]

Turnip for the books

When I was a child, my Grandfather (we called him ‘Pop’ because he hated the name ‘Granddad’) had an allotment style garden on their house in Dumbarton. I remember he grew two things I particularly liked – one of them was peapods (well obviously), and the other one was ‘snowball’ turnips. To my recollection, neither […]

Marten Returns

R and I were chatting in the kitchen this morning when he suddenly spotted our pine marten on the nut feeder. First time we have seen him in the daylight for any length of time, or that we managed to film him ourselves. Unfortunately after about two minutes – Tora decided to join the party […]

Busy Day in Lochgoilhead

Busy day here – when R and I went for a walk this morning we ended up by the loch where some outward bound groups were rafting and learning to sail in little training boats. I suppose it must be hard to hit a happy medium on the wind strength you want for this – […]
