Made it Home
I must be perfecting this journey, because J and I made it door to door in 12 hours. I honestly think the train is the best way of doing this journey (best of a bad bunch because all the options are bad). I am going down there one last time to supervise the house clearance and make sure all is clean and tidy for the new owner.
The views back along the journey are pretty good. Four major cathedrals (Ely, Norwich, York and Durham). Alnwick Castle. Miles and miles of lovely sea views. The river Tyne. The bridges in Berwick and then into Edinburgh. I still hate the train from Edinburgh to Helensburgh though – it is always freezing and there are no tables to put your tablet on. Not up to the standard of commuter trains in England I am afraid.
When I got home, I unpacked my one and only suit (which I wore to J’s Mum’s funeral back in June). Within 10 minutes Saphy was sleeping on it, and has been there most of the day.
The garden was still a winter wonderland – it has been bitterly cold this week. Obviously this is indicative of climate change as is every other weather which is in any way atypical of the time of year. I am amazed that the media find it worthy of extensive comment that in the UK it is cold and snowy in January. I don’t know what they would expect it to be? Or like it to be? Or is there any form of conceivable weather that they would not moan about?
