Sewing tables
We gave these to a friend from the village who had helped Chloe a lot and who is a fantastic craftswoman.
For some reason there are three separate sewing tables in the house – one Victorian walnut which J took himself, and two others which are 1960s/70s but are stuffed with old things.
There are button hooks, rug hooks, a huge collection of buttons and beads, embroidery threads in a variety of colours. There was also darning wool and a “mushroom”. Does anyone darn any more? I certainly don’t although I do know how and have used the technique, not for socks but to repair knitware.
My Dad used to darn his own socks and occasionally did mine. I did not like this because the sock was always really uncomfortable afterwards.
