Holkham Hall
We went to see the Christmas Lights at Holkham Hall tonight – this is a truly magnificent indoor display where many of the state rooms are opened up and decorated in sumptuous fashion (it has been on TV multiple times).
According to the website it was “15 to 20 minutes gentle walk” from the bus stop (our friend the Coastliner again) to the Hall. It was more like 30 minutes, and whilst I appreciate that I am not the speediest person in the world, I actually walked pretty quickly. It was a nice walk though, along a lovely road lined with trees with deer in the distance and many water birds to be loudly heard.
We then spent an hour walking round the lights – they were really great – the time and love that had obviously been spent on them was quite remarkable.
A bit of sparkle was taken out of the evening on the way back though. When we got out it was pitch dark and pouring with rain. We had to walk back over the park by the light of the torches on our iphones, getting totally drenched, whilst cars merrily drove past us with never a thought to stop and perhaps ask if we would like a lift. Merry Christmas to everyone who didn’t stop.
Anyway the bus came on time and we warmed up once we got in. North Norfolk would be better with a car.
