The end of the road

The end of the road

Walked to Inverlounin House this morning.  This is as far as you can get along the “coast road” – Fitbit says 4.71 miles return to Donich Lodge, but Google Earth says 4.2 miles (like it or not I suspect the Google reading is correct).  On the way we saw a nice heron taking off as we startled it.

There is a path that in theory carries on from this point, and in fact there is a sign to Stuckbeg, which is an isolated house and small holding another mile or so down the peninsula – in practice this path was impassable (due to being overgrown) before I had a stiff foot ten years ago.  I would be very surprised if you could even find the start of the path now.

So to get to Stuckbeg (and further on to Coran Lochan) you have to go along the top path which is a roughish forestry road.  I can do this now, in that I can physically walk it.  Don’t get me wrong, because this is a huge improvement on where I was a month ago, but being physically able to do a walk is not the same as enjoying doing it.  So far (three months and one week) from operation I am not enjoying walking on rough ground because I do not feel entirely stable and am always looking at my feet.  This was actually what I was warned about before the foot fusion – the lack of side to side movement impacts walking on unstable surfaces.  Anyway – a fair way to go until six months when I will have seen most of the improvement I am ever going to, and to definitely look on the bright side, at least I can enjoy the sort of walk we did today.

Here is Inverlounin House.  I wonder who that fit athletic woman is…  She looks great for 58, and love her fashion sense.
