Round and about
I’m getting out and about more now. Yesterday I walked down the coach road as far as what R and I call “the big stone”. This is the point beyond which there is no vehicular access. R was not with me because at the moment I am still fairly slow (plus I am not tackling the combo of steep hills and rough paths yet) so R doesn’t get a proper workout walking with me.
It was a nice autumn day so perfect for walking. From our house to the big stone and back is 2 miles.
Today R and I “sort of” went for a walk together. Our favourite walk before I hurt myself was the “Inverlounin loop”. This goes steeply from our house along a forestry track and then turns back down a narrow muddy path to join with the Inverlounin Road. You then walk back down the road home – it is 3.5 miles. So because I am not up to the hill path part, we split up when we got to the arboretum, and I went along the road with the plan being for R to go up the hill and meet with me back on the road, at which point I would turn back and go home with R. I was a bit of a victim of my own success with this, because I walked 1.25 miles going out and hadn’t met him to join up with. By this point my foot was getting sore and I didn’t want to go any further in case I couldn’t get back, so I turned and set off back. I paused and took in some seascapes.
In the end R didn’t catch me up until we got to the arboretum, and he was all out of breath from hurrying trying to catch me. I am sure it did him good.
Anyway, that was 2.5 miles in one walk and 8500 steps today. I need to relax and take things easy tomorrow.
