A new piece of wildlife

I am walking pretty well in my shoes now, although I do not officially discard the boot entirely until next week (ten weeks after my revision operation). I walked most of the way down to the main road along the “hydro road” (which is what R and I call the bit they tarmacked when they built the hydro station eight years ago). I had actually intended to walk to the main road and was turned back by the freezing wind rather than my foot.

On the way we saw a small piece of wildlife which had gallantly crossed the road and was about to disappear into the grass. It is a furry caterpillar – I would have thought at the wrong time of year.

I managed 8000 steps (3.5 miles) on Monday, although it was because we had visitors and I really should not have done it because my foot was very sore that evening. Our walk today was about .75 of a mile in total which is the most I have done in one go so far. Once R is back next week and I am officially out of the boot, I will start building my distance up properly.

To be able to walk without a limp and descend stairs properly I need between 15 and 25 degrees of plantar flexion in my ankle (that is the ability to flatten the foot in line with the rest of the leg). On my right side I have about 47 degrees, and on my left side I only have about 13. This has increased since this time last week from less than 8, so it is going in the right direction.
