Good news on the foot front

I saw the consultant yesterday for what I hope was the final time.  That was eight weeks from the operation and he had asked to see me two weeks early because the first set of X-Rays had looked good.  I had more X-Rays and the good news was that this time the bones are in the correct position and have fused well.  The original surgeon did not do a good job to say the least (I will say no more about this publicly, but suffice it to say that I am considering my options on this one), but the second one was excellent.  Not only did he do the operation that was promised and do it well, but he also stayed in communication during the entire process which was a change from the other one as well.

Anyway, enough of that because the good news is that I am now spending the next two weeks transitioning out of the Aircast boot and back into normal shoes.  I walked about in my trainers a bit last night (12 lengths of the hall) and all seemed well in that my foot is now flat to the floor.  I am very weak in my left calf and ankle though, which is hardly surprising since I have been either totally or partially off my feet for the best part of six months now!

My progress chart is completed to eight weeks with gold stars.  I will fill the rest in with a different colour over the next two weeks, at which point I hope the boot can be discarded for ever.

BTW R accused me yesterday of “having put pictures of my foot on the Internet”.  I have never done this, and rest assured I never will.  I have some really gruesome ones though….
