Pizza

I was just reading an article about how people would pay “£15 for a takeaway pizza with no problem”, while they would demur at paying £15 for fish and chips.  Actually the second one I do think is somewhat value for money as decent cod is expensive and the process of making real fish and chips at home is laborious to say the least.  But if you are in any way short of money or trying to save, £15 for a pizza is crazy.

My tuna pizzas cost about £3 a head.  The base is bread dough kneaded in the bread maker, and the tomato sauce is home made with canned tomatoes (and sometimes some fresh ones chucked in).  Topped with tuna, olives and cheese.  You could have salami or mushrooms for about the same price.

I know that these things require some basic facilities (a few cooking utensils and an oven), but it irritates me to constantly see people moaning (this is “see” in the Internet sense as I don’t actually see that many people face to face), about cost of living and then wasting money on takeaways and Starbucks coffee.  These things are nice luxuries, but if you are hard up (and believe you me I have seen hard times in the past) there is nothing beats getting your priorities right and learning to make cheap, tasty and nourishing food.
