Mystery Plants

R went to a conference last month (in Sheffield of all the glamorous places).  Normally you get a gift bag with a whole load of the inevitably branded pens, bottle openers etc. that such things attract.  But at “Steelcon” they have a variety on this, in that they provide a small tube with a plug of growing medium and a sprinkling of seeds.  Last year the seeds said “Chili peppers” which indeed they were, because I successfully grew some of them.

This year there was a similar tube and I have grown them again.  Five of them have sprouted and they are now growing in a pot on the kitchen windowsill.  The only problem is – what actually are they?  Unlike last year, there is no indication on the package, and the conference organizers don’t know either.  We’ll just wait and see – if they turn out to be something illegal we will just have to pull a Paul McCartney and say we didn’t know what they were.

Here they are – I think they are two different sorts – one seems to want to be a kind of ground creeper.
