Progress

Went back to my second home (Ross Hall Hospital) today to have the wires taken out of my toe and an X-Ray to check the progress of my bone fusion.

The X-Rays are certainly impressive – I have asked the surgeon for a copy so I can have them made up into a picture for the wall. Apparently this is not an unusual request – he told me that one of his patients had had his X-Ray engraved into a crystal paperweight. Anyway I have three long screws and five staples – basically more metal than bone. The wire that came out of my toe was about six inches long – way longer than I thought it was.

The news so far is very positive, but I am just waiting to see what comes of it all as I don’t want to be disappointed again.

I am walking well around the house in my boot (which I need to wear for another month), and most of my wounds have completely healed. I am still in a little pain through the scars but not too bad.

The picture is of my gold star progress report, now at more than 50% towards my target date of walking normally in my own shoes.
