Food disaster and toe cosy
I took two cartons of chili con carne which I made before my operation out of the freezer today to have for our lunch. It was not until I had decanted it into a Pyrex dish and put it in the oven, that I realized that one of the plastic cartons had shattered at the side, and there was a large irregular hole in it. I looked for the missing piece (or more likely pieces) of plastic everywhere, including taking the dish out of the oven and stirring around looking for it.
This only left a few possibilities: a) it had dropped out in the freezer b) it was in the food in small pieces c) it was in the food and had melted. Neither R nor I fancied either b or c – so sadly we had to put it in the bin. I felt really bad as I hate wasting food. Actually I wasn’t that bothered about it having melted in the food because I am sure it would not be actively poisonous, but the idea of there being small sharp pieces of plastic in it did not appeal at all and seemed quite likely to me as I don’t think that kind of plastic melts.
On a different subject, my foot is healing up quite well and I have most of the dressings off, including on the toe that was straightened. The wire through it is not due to come out for another two weeks, so in order to protect it from my sock or catching on the Aircast boot, I made a “toe cosy” for it. Basically I cut the toe piece out from some toe socks I have, hemmed it and popped it over the protruding wire. I wonder if I could patent this idea?
