Our Mowrator – Rowley
A few months ago we bought a “Mowrator”. This came off a Kickstarter project to create a remote controlled robot lawn mower. There are plenty of robot mowers available in UK, but in general they are of the sort where you let them go in a designated area and leave them to do their stuff. This is all very well in suburban gardens 30 feet on a side and surrounded by fences, but try that in our garden and the poor machine would be in the river or off up Beinn Donich in a flash. So this one is actually controlled with a wireless handset, much like a toy car.
We have decided to call him “Rowley” after the frog in the “A frog he would a wooing go” song – I don’t know why apart from that he rolls and I always liked the poem.
He is a fearsome beast – weighs 60kg and cuts through long grass, bracken, docks etc like there was no tomorrow. He even goes into ditches and up and down steep inclines. So he is perfect for our garden.
Here are some photos.
And last but not least, Rowley the movie. With music by Sono AI and lyrics by me.
