Lembas Waybread

In “The Lord of the Rings” Galadriel gives the Fellowship a gift of elven “waybread” or “lembas” which is a kind of biscuit which acts as the ultimate travel ration.

There was some discussion on the Internet about how you actually make it, and this was the recipe Chat GPT came up with.

Ingredients:

315 grams of plain flour
15 grams of baking powder
1.25 grams of salt
115 grams of butter
67 grams of brown sugar
5 grams of ground cinnamon
7.5 grams of honey
160 milliliters of double cream
2.5 milliliters of vanilla extract

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 218°C (425°F).
Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt into a large bowl.
Add the butter and mix well until fine granules form (using an electric mixer is easiest).
Add the sugar and cinnamon, mixing thoroughly.
Add the cream, honey, and vanilla, stirring with a fork until a thick dough forms.
Roll the dough to about 1.25 cm thickness. Cut into 7.5 cm squares and transfer to a baking tray.
Criss-cross each square from corner to corner with a knife, lightly scoring the surface without cutting through the dough.
Bake for about 12 minutes or until set and lightly golden.

I actually made some today and they were very nice; a sort of shortbread like slightly sweet biscuit. I would have rolled them rather thinner than the recipe states though.
Note that I have baked them in the shape of oak leaves.
