Night of the mouse
R is away at a conference.
Last night I went to bed around 11pm as usual. I take the Aircast boot off at night and I am not supposed to put weight on my foot without it, so if I need to get up during the night, I have to either put it back on (which takes a minute or two) or use the wheelchair.
Around midnight, I heard a noise from the hall, indicative of vigorous cat activity. I ignored it, partially because they often have attacks of the “zoomies” at night, and partially because using either mode of movement at my disposal, I’m not sufficiently mobile to deal with, for example, the pursuit of an escaped prey item.
So I laid in bed and listened. After a while the noise stopped, and I went back to sleep, but I think I was woken up by a reoccurrence of it at least twice more in the wee small hours.
So this morning, I got up, quite curious to know which of the three had perpetrated the noise and ready to check the webcam we have pointing down the hall for the evidence.
On the sill to my room was a dead mouse.
The webcam had been turned, presumably by the power cord, so that it no longer pointed down the hall.
As a result, no activity had been recorded on it between 11:30pm and 6:45am. The cat flap cam also shows no evidence of a mouse having been brought in after about 6pm yesterday (before that there was too much activity to check).
So as far as evidence is concerned. Lucky had not been in all night because his food had not been eaten this morning. Amber has no “previous” for this type of activity. My bet is on Saphy having brought it in during the day and lost it – but I have no evidence that would stand up in a court of law.
