Blackadder Buns and Balsamic Vinegar
These are actually seeded rolls with black olives.
I can’t think why they remind me of the episode of Blackadder with the comedy breasts, aka “Devil’s Dumplings”. Actually this is the second time this particular episode has been called to mind this week. The first occasion was the dish served up (I jest you not) on MasterChef “Turnip eight ways”. I mean, can you imagine the kind of person who, given the choice of a number of menu items in a expensive restaurant, would choose the turnip delight?
I am afraid I have known this kind of person in the past – and thank goodness I don’t any more, although I gather they are becoming more common. My former boss once accompanied “the team” to a rather down market pub in Bracknell. After studying the menu at length, he decided on a burger and chips. This came with the obligatory lettuce leaf, slice of cucumber and cherry tomato which constitutes the “British salad” in this type of establishment. He took a long hard look at the plate and then asked the waitress if he could have balsamic vinegar with it. I’m surprised he left in one piece. He’d have gone for those turnips every time…
