Back to Butane
When we put the sound insulation into the wall between the two offices (needed to muffle the noise of R’s meetings) – we never replaced the radiators in the two rooms. Basically they had never worked properly because they were on a different thermostat from the rest of the house. The idea was that in the winter we would switch the air con (which is effectively an air source heat pump) to heat mode.
This sort of worked in that it did heat the offices – but I hated it. It was a fierce dry heat involving a fan and it was making my eyes dry and sore.
So I reverted to my trusty living flame gas fire which runs off a large cylinder of butane. It warms the office without drying the air, looks pretty and makes a pleasant quiet “burning” noise.
Much better than the electric heating.
