The Eleventh Day of Mousemas

No evidence for which of the girls brought in the shrew today – but my money is on Saphy. There definitely seems to be a difference in intelligence between the rodents – mice/voles and the “predator” insectivore shrew. Voles are often DOA. Mice are frequently alive when brought in but seem to prefer hiding to trying to find a way out. I notably saved R from a very nasty experience in our Livingston days when the boys’ interest in one of his slippers turned up a live mouse hiding there. Shrews on the other hand seem to have a keen survival instinct – when the cats are shut away in a bedroom and the front door is opened – the vast majority of shrews make a swift bid for freedom. This is good as they are very fast and difficult to catch.
