The First Day of Mousemas

The cats have informed me that they don’t do Christmas. They more go in for the New Age Festival of Mousemas which coincidentally lasts twelve days running from Dec 18th to 29th. It is a bit of a movable feast but traditionally ends on R’s birthday on 29th. Traditional occupations during Mousemas are the consumption of large quantities of food, tickles 24 by 7, and the ritual disembowelment of at least one prey item a day. This should be left out for display in a location where humans can easily admire it by treading on it – by custom amongst Orthodox cats, this should always be on a cream carpet rather than a wooden floor. It should also be mentioned that Mousemas is considered a successor to the ancient festival of “Vole”.
