Power Cut Today
R and I were chatting in his office this morning, when suddenly the power went out. Luckily R could still get to the Internet on his mobile to get to EE’s site, but the Vodafone coverage is not good enough for me to get online, although unlike a couple of years ago I can still make calls. Normally I am reliant on our SureSignal, which itself is reliant on the wireless network, which is reliant on the electricity supply.
Life is very complicated these days. I remember as a child during the power cuts in 1970s sitting reading a paper version of “Lord of the Rings” leaning against the gas fired central heating radiator. In those days it worked regardless of the electricity being off. Then we had a little gas camping stove and my father blew himself and the floor in the kitchen up trying to light it. He literally had no eyebrows left!
Anyway, they got the power back on in a couple of hours. I keep looking at the idea of getting solar panels and a house battery installed, but it would cost about £36000 and as we have had one two hour outage this year, it doesn’t really seem cost effective. I like the idea though.
