Lollipop Birds

Lollipop Birds

We’ve had some new visitors over the last few days – at least two pairs of long tailed tits. I’ve heard them described as “Lollipop Birds” because, well basically that is what they look like with their tiny round bodies and long tails.

I also saw one siskin yesterday. For reasons unknown, although they are not migrants, we only every see them here in the spring and summer when we have clouds of them. They are very messy eaters, unlike the chaffinches which are our most common bird, and in the summer I regularly have to hose down the feeding area to wash away the residue of the seeds they drop. If I don’t do this we acquire some other interesting pieces of wildlife which are big glossy beetles which feed on the broken seeds.
