The cats and I were in the kitchen the other night when I glanced out of the window to see the largest pine marten I’ve ever seen nosing around the bird feeding area. Both cats saw him and started to get very excited – I actually had to grab Schrodi who was all ready to go out for an encounter. As we were standing there, the marten loped off round the corner, and I heard the unmistakably sound of the cat flap rattling open and then closing again. The marten had pushed it half way open and then obviously thought better of it.
I’m in two minds as to whether it has actually been inside the house before – there have been incidents where the cat plates have been suspiciously cleared out in the morning; on the other hand, I would have expected the cats to go quite nuts if another animal had actually entered their territory.
