Tea for Two

Tea for Two

I made R the birthday treats I had promised. Sausage Rolls, cheese and ham rolls, meringues, chocolate cake and scones with strawberry jam and whipped cream. Everything was home made, including the puff pastry for the sausage rolls which for a change I made myself. I hadn’t tried this since I was a child and people had kept telling me it wasn’t worth it – but at least for rough puff, I found it easy and quite quick to make. It turned out great and I would certainly make it again because it rather goes against my grain to buy shop bought pastry (I used the BBC recipe).

Scones are something I have never been good at, and this time I tried the Paul Hollywood recipe. They were not a complete success, but they were a bit better than usual, and I think I know where I went wrong in that I rolled them out far too thin. Anyway they were lovely with the cream and home made strawberry jam.

The meringues were a Delia Smith recipe I have made loads of times before and they turned out perfectly even though I say so myself.

So really enjoyed our tea – though unfortunately it must have had about 5000 calories in it.WP_20160621_15_25_13_Pro
