Wild Strawberries

I went out this afternoon to try to get some even better pictures of the water lilies, and got side tracked a bit. Last year we had one small wild strawberry plant by the pond. This year my eye was suddenly caught by a flash of red – and on inspection the whole flowerbed was covered in the tiny fruit.

I gathered two large handfuls (helped by Tora) and ate them for my lunch with M&S vanilla yoghurt. They were very nice indeed, quite sweet with a more delicate flavour than the cultivated ones. There are loads more so I will have to gather some every day.

I also noticed some great wild orchids and purple flag irises.
