In which we meet a new addition to the Donich Wildlife

Right in the middle of the road outside – what should there be but a newt. They are supposed to be nocturnal and shy, but this fellow was up and about in the middle of the day and didn’t seem very scared of us. I was concerned that he might get run over so I carefully picked him up and conveyed him to the grass verge – whereupon he shot off at speed.

By a coincidence, later on that day we were looking in our pool and saw another newt (or maybe even the same one!) swimming along the bottom and eying up a juicy tadpole (of which there are now many).

Our pool is actually packed with wildlife – ducks, heron, otter, tadpoles, waterboatmen, pondskaters, frogs and now newts. Pretty sure that we will see some fine dragonflies later on in the year too.
