And then there were none…

As suddenly as they appeared – in one day all the frogs have departed.  Where last week there was a writhing mass of slimy bodies ‘revelling in the joys of fornication’ now there is only a great mass of frogspawn.  Let’s hope we get a decent crop of froglets which will eat some of the infamous Loch Goil midgies.

The heron was in the pond this morning when I went out, and I disturbed him again down by the track on the way back.  He looked at me in a somewhat disgruntled fashion as though he blamed me for the sudden disappearance of his favourite snack.

Spring is coming along apace now – every morning there is something new to look at, or hear or smell.  Along the fence by the Donich bank a rambling rose is mingling its leaves with a honeysuckle – they will make a beautiful display soon.  Many of the trees (and our hawthorn hedge) are now delicately fringed with green lace.  Every year it is such a miracle….

On a less poetic note – the plants in the poly tunnel are slowly coming on – but they really need a few days of warmth to kick start them.  The soil in the outdoors veg plots is still very wet and colder than I would like it to be.  I am tempted to start my planting regardless – but I am obeying the books and waiting a while longer.  I see a few people in the village have planted outside now though….

Nice to know things are moving along in your neck of the woods. I love frogs but not in mass quantities so that sight would have given me the chills. LOL!
