Lochgoilhead is a major centre for the Scouting Association. They have a residential base here and their season seems to have started now because we have seen groups around over the last few weeks. Often I feel quite sorry for them because they are out canoeing and abseiling and having to be jollied along in the most awful weather. Many years ago I can remember all the joys of a ‘Sausage Sizzle’ when I was in the Brownies. We looked forward to it for weeks then on the day it poured with rain, and the Sizzle turned into a Fizzle when it had to be moved indoors. The sausages were cold and wrinkled up and there was a queue a mile long for a ride on our unwilling hostess’ rocking horse… The joys of childhood.
