Cats and the new bed

I think the ladies like the new bed I bought the other day, and which R managed to repair after I broke it trying to build it.

J and I were actually doing the building, and all went very well. We had it perfectly built and ready to go when we came to putting the mattress on – the final stage. It was huge and heavy, so exactly following the instructions, we lifted it on to the bed frame, and using the supplied tool, cut along the join of the plastic wrapper it was in to open it. This was vacuum packed, and we were expecting it to expand itself quite suddenly. What the instructions did not indicate in any way was that it would suddenly spring out like a striking snake. Luckily I was not right behind it, but along side, but even so it knocked me right to the floor and hit the foot end of the bedstead so hard that it broke it off and actually warped the metal struts attaching the foot of the bed to the rest of it. Luckily no harm was done to me – only the bed itself.

J and I tried to repair it but it was beyond us. R to the rescue, however. He bought some special screws and managed to re-attach it, albeit with considerable effort. But I swear we followed the instructions correctly – so that mattress is not really compatible with the bed and it is actually dangerous to unwrap it the way it is described.

But the bed, now built and rebuilt, is very comfortable. I took some of the bedding off it to test the size of the new valence sheet I bought, and the girls immediately colonized it.
