Some new feats
I showed J the very back of our garden (he had only been there once and that was 11 years ago when we first moved in). There is more to Donich Lodge than just the house and the cultivated garden – there is actually another 2 acres of uncultivated woodland behind the house, running all the way round a big bend in the Donich Water.
We in fact didn’t even know this when we bought the house believe it or not. It was a lovely bonus to find that we also owned a wood which is full of bluebells, wild garlic and primroses in season. There are loads of hazel trees and I had high hopes of getting nuts off them before discovering that our red squirrels had the same idea and were better at it that we were.
Right at the end of the garden is a huge stone, which we think is from the same stable as the Rock of the Britons on the hillside a few miles away. It is flanked by several huge sequoias and behind it is a waterfall with a pool where I have swum a few times.
Just to prove I am not making it up – here I am at the big stone.
On the same day I also managed to circumnavigate the pond, having removed the large quantities of brambles and other weeds which have accumulated while I was out of action. I am wearing goggles and gloves to protect my eyes and hands – but the thin trousers I was wearing were ill suited to the task and now my legs look as though Lucky has been at them.
