Some old friends on an old chair

The chair in the picture came from my Grandma’s house in Blackpool.  She was born in 1889 and lived to be 98, so even more than my father, she saw some serious changes in her life.  Lived through both world wars as an adult and saw powered flight, radio, films, television etc.  From the stagecoach to the spacecraft.

But I digress – this rocking chair was my favourite as a child, but I kind of abandoned it, and it ended up with J where it was sadly neglected and covered in dust.  He persuaded me not to bin it, so I did it up to come to our new home.

I had been thinking of sanding it and staining it, but it was actually not in bad shape, so I just gave it a good clean and polish.  Then I made it a new seat cushion.  It looks quite good.

Sitting on the chair are J’s Mum’s old toys, Napoleon, Wellington and Blucher.  It was J that gave them those names, not his mum.
