The loch shows an infinite variety of faces as the light hits it on different days.

Lucky used to be a stray girl but has now found her new identity as a Donich Lodge boy (the vet discovered he was male when we took “her” to be spayed). He would ask you to respect his new pronouns.

The high mountain pass over the Rest and be Thankful is the main route out of the village. Here it is in winter.

Spring sky over the mountain tops.

Sunset from our front door step.

A misty moon over the mountains as darkness falls.

View over towards the loch from near the summit of Cnoc Coinnich.

A rainbow appears in a clear interval between showers.

Lochgoilhead in the distance on a clear spring morning.

As the year turns, the mountains are white on most days.

Looking across the loch from the village, clouds form a band across the hills.

Tora and Schrodi our snow Bengal brothers used to live here. RIP both of you

A dragonfly pauses for a rest by the side of our pond.

The weather here can be appalling. Here gales and torrential rain have blocked one of the village’s few roads.

The colours on the mountains fade to muted browns as autumn approaches.

The Donich Water in one of its kinder moods as it runs through our garden.

One of a myriad insects pollinating our heather.

A group of wild haggis have made a den down by the river.

Our new Highland Tiger Saphy prowling her territory. She is a demon for the wildlife with her specialized prey item being shrews. She is not adverse to mice, voles or birds however.

This is Amber aka as Bramble. She is big, black, rather podgy and a bit of a scaredy cat. We had her cloned shortly after she arrived.

Although we don’t get much snow at loch level, the higher mountains are covered for five months or so of the year

Interesting Wildlife night

Last night was an interesting one on Shed Cam. I had been getting a bit worried because we had not seen our badgers for a few days. Last night they were back (about 10 times during the night), but unfortunately although I ordered 50kg of nuts for them over a week ago they have not […]

Cats and Cards

I put a row of Christmas cards on the mantelpiece this week, and, perhaps foolishly, decorated it with some tinsel. Today I have had both cats up there. Their modus operandi is to push all the cards onto the floor and then attack the tinsel. I don’t mind this too much with the cards but […]

Donich Cottage

My parents, my brother and R’s sister always come to us for Christmas. Last year our house was literally bursting at the seams because although we have four bedrooms, two of them are used as offices. It really felt as though there was nowhere to go for a bit of peace and quiet, also there […]

Beautiful walk this morning

R and I went for our usual walk this morning as the weather was pretty good. The Highland cows were on the path as was the resident bull who we have christened ‘Billy Big Balls’. They are very placid creatures that don’t seem to be alarmed by humans at all – but they have fearsome […]

Vegan Christmas – Part two

I had a good idea for V’s Christmas dinner. Although I like vegan food, somehow to me something is missing if you can’t have a full ‘all the trimmings’ dinner on Christmas day. I don’t think (for example) that a curry or pasta would really cut it. So I have made a sort of ‘Christmas […]

Guess Who…

When we were trying to clear the snow off the drive before it turned to solid ice, we saw some interesting footprints…. I presume these are from our resident heron.

Snowscape this morning

We have had quite a lot of snow overnight. It is incredibly beautiful. A bit worrying though because R is driving back this morning and I have guests coming from Glasgow.

Woes yesterday, snow today

We woke up this morning to see that the first real snow of the year had fallen overnight – we probably only have about 2cm here at ‘Loch level’ but the hills are very white. Yesterday was one of those days where everything seemed to go awry. First we lost our ADSL connection because the […]

Christmas Tree

I put my Christmas Tree up yesterday with a thunderstorm raging in the background – very bizarre. I confused my Mum into thinking I was super organized with the picture of the tree on the blog last week – that was last year’s tree which had a gold theme – this year it is silver. […]

More storms…

More storms. Right now it is hail accompanied by thunder and lightning. The ground outside looks snowy in the picture – but it is in fact a layer of hail so thick that it is lying on the ground in drifts. R and I braved walking down to the front at high tide to see […]
