Gardening

For the first time in ages I am not booked in on a test this week so I am taking the opportunity to get the garden cleaned up in time for spring. Everything looks a right mess at the moment – partially because it always does in February, and partially because we were so busy […]

Cormonachan Woodlands

I’m on the committee for the Cormonachan Woodlands Association. Basically we are going to try to restore a piece of Atlantic Oak woodland to its former glory and see if we can make it into an amenity for the local community, visitors and (of course) wildlife. We went over today to discuss our plans for […]

Pet Sheep

My Mum sent me a good newspaper cutting today. You need to click on the image to be able to read the text clearly, The reason for us both liking this is that when I was a child we had a pet sheep. She actually belonged to the farm next door, but had been brought […]

Spring is Coming

I was out having a look round the garden in earnest this afternoon for the first time this year. It was pretty balmy for February (perhaps about 8 or 9C) and for the first time I had a sense that spring might be in the air. A few crocuses are tentatively coming in to flower, […]

Rest and be Thankful

R and I went to Dumbarton today to get some shopping and pick up J who is looking after our cats for the weekend while we go to see my parents. It was a lovely sunny day and I don’t think I have ever seen ‘The Rest’ looking quite so spectacular. As ever I took […]

A lovely Winter day (condensed version)

While we were out walking on Sunday we left our time lapse camera running. I wanted to do a full dawn to dusk originally, but the morning turned out to be a bit boring – mainly because the weather was too nice with no moving clouds to speak of. So I cut that bit out […]

Sheep on a wall

There is a small ivy covered wall in the back garden here which is all that is left of the original lodge house which stood on this site and burned down in the 1970s. In the absence of being able to get at much grass through the snow, our resident escapees spent several hours eating […]

Good walk this morning

R and I did the Tom a Chuilg walk today. It was interesting to see that although the snow has mostly gone at ‘Loch Level’, as soon as you walk up out of the valley it is still pretty thick on the ground. Once we got up on to the foothills around Beinn Donich and […]

Jamie must be one hell of a guy…

N & J are coming for dinner today and I thought I would make one of Jamie Oliver’s ’30 minute meals’ – in this case Swedish fishcakes with salsa, roast potatoes and alfafa salad. It is a lovely recipe and it all looks very nice (uncooked so far) but I really find it hard to […]
