Gala Day – Donich Website https://www.donich.co.uk Argyll wildlife and nature as seen on the banks of the Donich Water Thu, 06 Aug 2015 08:49:08 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.7.4 Weather as expected…. https://www.donich.co.uk/blog/2015/08/02/weather-as-expected/ https://www.donich.co.uk/blog/2015/08/02/weather-as-expected/#respond Sun, 02 Aug 2015 15:14:55 +0000 http://www.donich.co.uk/?p=4803 Well the weather for the Gala Day was pretty much as expected.

We went down to put the CWA marquee up with R wearing a waterproof and me making the assumption that as the sun was shining I would not get soaking wet in the five minutes it would take to do it. Bad plan. While I was standing holding the poles the sky opened and I got soaked to the skin.

That was then the theme for the day with rain and sun coming alternately and the field getting muddier and muddier.

So some money was made for the village, but the whole thing was not as successful as it could have been if the weather had been good. I suppose that is the big issue in general with living in one of the rainiest parts of the UK.

Gala Day Tomorrow https://www.donich.co.uk/blog/2015/07/31/gala-day-tomorrow/ https://www.donich.co.uk/blog/2015/07/31/gala-day-tomorrow/#respond Fri, 31 Jul 2015 22:30:50 +0000 http://www.donich.co.uk/?p=4797 Well it is our Gala Day tomorrow. The fridge is full of strawberries and cream ready to portion out, and the dining room table is covered with biscuits and cakes – all in aid of the Cormonachan Woodlands Group that I am a member of. I really hope the weather will be ok tomorrow – mostly because I would like the Gala to be a big success, but also because I don’t want to bring all this food back to be a temptation to myself and R (well mainly to R actually – he has a major biscuit weakness).

If you believe the BBC, it will be sun and rain showers tomorrow. If you would rather go with the Windows 10 Weather App – it will be thunderstorms. Actually it is a very nice app, but it does tend to always look on the black side – it correctly predicted the hurricanes back in October last year, but it also predicted them on many other days when actually it was quite nice. So I will go with the BBC and live in hope…

Luckily the weather seems to be improving and hopefully we will get a nice day for it.

Gala Day Today https://www.donich.co.uk/blog/2014/07/26/gala-day-today/ https://www.donich.co.uk/blog/2014/07/26/gala-day-today/#comments Sat, 26 Jul 2014 11:32:37 +0000 http://www.donich.co.uk/?p=3407 It is Gala Day here in Lochgoilhead today – and with the insouciance of fate, the weather (which has been perfect all week) is not so great today. It is not cold by any manner of means, but it is a bit great and there are spots of rain. Let’s hope it manages to hold off until 5pm.

The village is mobbed today – a far cry from winter when you could go for weeks without seeing another living soul. I’ll be out later taking some photos, and also doing the prize draw (R and my company sponsored the prizes).

Good luck to everyone and I hope it all goes well.
